feathers vs hearts of stone

righteous angels of yore align
now declaring a great nation
soon to fall to deep desolation
having surrendered to greed

to arrogance and unwarranted
claims of superiority over nations
as divided by cast, color, class
corruption and death of souls

once wealthy men and women
will bare themselves to the sky
and walk barefoot on highways
long and desolate to nowhere

the allure of lies shattered peace
to hallucinations more powerful
than love of life and justice for
fellow souls suffering indignation

somehow, once again we forgot
and traded diamonds for blood
gold for scalps, countries for oil
and crushed souls for free labor

we are our brothers only keeper
yet, we listened to the melody
we danced frantically to the music
now we are indebted to the piper

so, scales of justice now calibrate
for feathers vs hearts of stone
and clouds loom on the horizon
ominous heavy dark and low
