a changing season

two lazy days ago
when late afternoon sun
was shining bright yellow
and distant leaning
into the faraway sky
i walked in the garden

i was the only creature
other than the squirrels,
the rabbits, the chipmunks
and the beautiful birds
brave enough that day
to challenge the chill

colorful carp and crusty turtles
easily navigated the lake
one duck walked along the crest
of a little brown knoll
where a carpet of grass
is eager to turn lively green

Snowdrops, Byzantine, Gladiolus,
Jasmine and Crocus of many colors
are in full bloom and trembling
as tiny tips of Daffodil buds
though not yet open
struggle to turn yellow

when solitude surrounds beauty
no distractions appear
to dim the bittersweet joy
of nature's heartbeat
and it seems I am always
alone there when it is cold

struggle

Sometimes it's hard ta git
da real goodie from da beehive
oh, but da honey is sweet.
