preeminent vows
under the golden moon

that clear night we stood with certainty
beneath a canopy of constellations and stars
the sky trembled shedding her pinholes of light
ravishingly to the dark side of this cold earth

you and i were there when the full moon came
slowly raising her golden head over the horizon
bringing her blessing to unfolding harvests
and sanctifying the hearts of those who love

we brought bread, wine, and delicacies from the sea
and there on a smooth carpet of well bred grass
with splendid ritual we spread a large white cloth
and decorated this altar with fine china and silver

At the center we placed 34 yellow roses in a vase
two golden candelabras each with 8 white candles
one to the north and to the south on each side
that evening was perfectly as warm as our friendship

we stepped back held hands and in the awesome silence
we could hear our hearts beating as we gave homage
to the universe and the great binding Creative Force
that gently brought us there to that sacred moment

we faced east and vowed before all the ties that bind
that our love would remain as infinite and as everlasting
as the night, the earth, the moon, and the stars
unequivocally we vowed before the bright full faced moon

and the moon read our hearts, read the depth of our souls
then recorded that moment of great sincerity and truth
as a rare treasure destined for the archives of bliss
with care it was sealed as a true episode of untainted verity

yes, there before God, His intelligence and His galaxies
we ate, drank wine, sang, laughed, danced and embraced
in our feeble attempt to protract that perfect night
when we were betrothed by the full round golden moon

This sounds like Pablo Neruda and Matilde Urrutia's very private wedding ceremony. Although now shared by the public since her book. She says the subsequent public ceremony years later felt phony by comparison. This was the real thing.
